Baden-Württemberg Historical Data
Menu

Purpose

The files were assembled for research that requires historical observations to be assigned to places and administrative units. Municipal boundaries and identifiers change over time, so the repository keeps several reference years as well as source files and preparation scripts.

The website provides a small public index to those materials. It is not a complete catalogue of every dataset produced by the project.

Boundary data

The boundary work uses digital historical maps and source material available through Baden-Württemberg’s archival infrastructure, including LEO-BW and material connected to the Historischer Atlas von Baden-Württemberg.

The repository includes scripts used to retrieve and inspect shapefiles, transform coordinates, and prepare files for the web map. It also records work matching archival map identifiers, parish identifiers, and documented administrative changes.

Project context

The repository records work undertaken between 2019 and 2025 at the Chair of Quantitative Economic History (VWL VII), University of Bayreuth. The work was partially funded by German Research Foundation project 471335227.

Status and reuse

Some files are working research materials. Published datasets are identified separately and link to their formal records.

No repository-wide licence is currently stated. Check the terms of the original source and any published dataset before reuse. When citing a file from this repository, record its file name, reference year, and repository version.
